Set up Outlook Express to reduce online time

You can set up Outlook Express to automatically disconnect after you select Send and Receive from the Tools menu. You can then read and compose messages offline without incurring charges or engaging a phone line.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Connection tab, select the Hang up after sending and receiving check box.

  3. If you connect to an IMAP or HTTP server, click the server name in the folder list, and then make sure that the items you want to view offline are checked.

Notes

  • To reconnect to send or receive messages, on the Tools menu, point to Send and Receive, and then select the option you want.

  • If you select an IMAP folder when you are offline, and you have not checked Work Offline from the File menu, Outlook Express will reconnect, and will not hang up when you click Send/Recv.
